THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
EPISODE 20
The moving van arrived
at the Towers estate at
dawn, its headlights
cutting through the morning
mist. Robert watched from
the sunroom, a single
cardboard box at his
feet. He wasn't taking
the heirlooms or the
antique rugs; he was
taking the 'New Family
Rule' notebook and a
framed photo of Minnie
from 1975. At Dorothy's
apartment, the radical
honesty had a new
consequence: a crowded
kitchen. Minnie was
flipping pancakes while
Barbara and Tyler
debated the merits of
a small-town wedding.
'We don't need a
ballroom, Mom,' Barbara
said, her voice steady.
'We just need a
backyard and people
who actually know our
middle names.' Minnie
smiled, realizing that
for the first time,
she wasn't managing
an image, she was
witnessing a life.
In the city, James
was at his cubicle
early, but he wasn't
alone. Robert walked
in, carrying a small
cactus in a ceramic
pot. He set it on
James's desk. 'A
housewarming gift for
the new office,' Robert
said. 'It doesn't
need much water, and
it'™s tough as hell.
Reminded me of you
this week.' James
looked at the plant,
then at the man who
used to be his
intimidating boss.
'Thanks, Robert. It'll
fit right in.' Robert
leaned against the
gray fabric wall of
the cubicle. 'The
house is sold, James.
I'm moving into a
condo by the park.
It's two rooms, and
the walls are thin
enough to hear the
neighbors.' 'Do you
hate it?' James
asked. Robert shook
his head. 'No. I've
spent too long in
a house where I
couldn't hear anything
at all.' As the
day progressed, the
Towers name was
fading from the
headlines, replaced
by the quiet,
messy reality of
six people finding
their way back
to each other. The
radical honesty
had broken the
empire, but it
was finally
building a home.
