THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
        EPISODE 50
The day of the board's
final end arrived in
a flurry of papers.
The Towers name was
stricken from the
public record.
James sat in his
cubicle and watched
the final trade.
The assets were gone,
sent to the victims.
The company was a
ghost that no longer
held any power.
Robert sat in the
yard, watching birds.
He knew the news.
He knew the board
was finished.
He felt a strange joy
in his tired chest.
He had dismantled
the monster he made.
The fallout was over.
The ground was level.
"You did it, Towers,"
the guard said,
handing him a letter.
It was from the EPA.
They acknowledged
his cooperation.
It wasn't a pardon.
It was a fact.
Robert put the letter
in his pocket.
He looked at the
window, at the blue.
He knew he still had
years to serve.
But he also knew
he was the only free
man in the building.
Minnie sat in the
condo, looking at
the Family Rule book.
She wrote the final
entry for the year.
The Towers fell.
The people stand.
She closed the book
and looked at Bella.
The empire was a
memory now.
The future was blank.
She looked at the
window, at the park.
She saw her children
living lives that
weren't lies.
Legacy.
The honesty had
saved the only
thing worth saving.
The fallout was the
rain that cleared the
air for the next
generation to breathe.
Minnie smiled.
The saga was over.
The life began.
