THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
Episode 63
The morning air felt thin
above the desert floor.
Robert sat at his station
ready to start the day.
He was checking the logic
of a new firewall scene.
Minnie came in holding
a folder of new recipes.
"Virginia sent these over
from the ward," she said.
"She says cooking is a
form of healing, Robert."
He looked up and smiled
at his wife of many years.
"She always was the most
caring of the four girls."
He turned back to the
monospaced lines on screen.
The layout for the new
book was looking sharp.
The 6x9 frame was solid
and the text was clean.
Dorothy buzzed the door
with a box of pastries.
"The school year is over
and I am free," she cried.
She sat at the counter
and watched Minnie work.
"I want to help with the
next book project, Dad."
Robert felt a sense of
pride in his middle girl.
"I could use an editor
with your sharp eye, Dot."
Shirley arrived with a
new logo for the series.
She opened Photoshop and
showed them the design.
The Boom Lake brand was
centered and very bold.
"It looks like it belongs
on a shelf," Robert said.
Barbara sent a text from
the valley warehouse.
"The shipments are moving
out to the coast today."
The Towers were a team
with a common mission.
They were building a new
life from the old ruins.
The radical honesty was
their secret strength.
They did not hide from
the eyes of the public.
They stood in the light
and they spoke the truth.
Minnie started the prep
for the evening meal.
The Mexican rub was the
scent of the afternoon.
"We are doing it, Rob,"
she said, stirring the pot.
He stood up and hugged
her in the golden light.
"We are finally a family
without any secrets, Min."
The daughters gathered
around the small table.
Virginia, Dorothy, and
Shirley shared a laugh.
Barbara walked in with
the final sales report.
The saga was a story of
a rise from the dust.
They were the Towers of
Arizona, standing tall.
Robert felt a peace that
he had never known before.
The debt was a ghost.
The work was the life.
The air was very clear.
They were finally home.
He saved the final file
of the long afternoon.
Every character was in
its perfect position.
The future was a page
waiting for the ink.
